Description

What is it?

This isn't just a course about what to teach (you can read that in the guidance). It's about how to teach it. Participants will have opportunities to explore resources, take part in activities, discuss real classroom challenges and develop ideas they can use in their own settings. Whether you're looking to strengthen your existing RSHE provision or build your confidence in delivering these important topics, this course will provide practical ideas, fresh approaches and valuable resources to take back to school.

Who is it for?

The course is about developing lessons for groups that can work together, follow a simple social story, take part in some easy card sorting activities and carry out some adult supported discussion sessions. We have different training for staff working with PMLD learners but this course will not address their needs.

Aim

The aim of this course is to give participants the knowledge, confidence and practical tools to deliver high-quality, age-appropriate and accessible RSHE that meets the diverse needs of their learners.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the training participants will have:

  • investigated the DfE Relationships Education, RSE and Health Education Guidance in detail

  • explored their schools RSHE curriculum and looked at options for developing this in line with the guidance and requirements of your school

  • looked at up to date RSHE resources and how to develop a resource section for these in school

  • developed a lesson using the resources available

  • delivered part of a lesson to the other participants and received feedback

  • considered assessment and monitoring of RSHE lessons

  • shared ideas, experiences and good practice with other professionals working with learners with SEND
